HOW A BAG IS MADE
In a single season (typically 6 months), there can be over 160 calendar milestones involved in taking a bag from concept to point of sale. At any given step we are tackling 3 overlapping seasons in development. Here's a sneak peek at just the creative and concept steps involved in turning an idea into a sample.

1. Mood
Establish the season's aesthetic and inspiration through colors, textures, imagery, and themes, providing a clear direction for product development.

2. Material
A color palette and material board is created to guide sourcing and color dips.

3. Prints
Print and patterns to create a signature for the season.

4. Sketches
Quick, loose hand sketches to establish the general look of the bag. Concepts can result from 1, 2 or dozens of explorations.

5. Cads
Once a design is selected, a detailed digital rendition is created for a more realistic presentation. A collection of cads will be presented to the business.

6. Hardware
Develop and mold all hardware that goes into the collection.

7. Spec
Once the business assorts the product, design is ready to work on full size layouts and build tech packs.

8. Paper pattern
Tech packs move into the sampling phase in Asia, where paper patterns are created, and the sampling process begins.

9. Sewing
Factory sews and constructs the bag based on the paper patterns.

10. First sample review
A first sample is sent to the designers to review and make changes. Usually 2 more rounds of samples will follow.

11. Showroom
After the collection has been sampled, reviewed, edited, and approved by the business, a final collection is set up in the showroom, ready to go to market.
